Eva Olsson
Eva Olsson is a professor of experimental physics at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden.
Olsson received her PhD from Chalmers and was thereafter a postdoc at IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, physical sciences, Yorktown Heights (New York, USA). She then joined the faculty at Chalmers followed by an appointment as full professor at the Ångström laboratory, Uppsala University, Sweden. She was subsequently appointed full professor at the department of physics, Chalmers.
Olsson is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, physics class. She has been the general secretary and later president of Scandem (The Nordic Microscopy Society). She has been a member of the executive committee of the International Federation of Microscopy Societies (IFSM) and was subsequently elected general secretary of IFSM and thereafter the president of IFSM.
Olsson is a Fellow of The University of Tokyo (Japan), a member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and a John Cowley Distinguished Lecturer at Arizona State University (USA). She is mainly involved in studies of materials for emerging technologies, including catalysis, photovoltaics and quantum devices. Her research group focuses on the development of novel characterisation techniques.
Olsson works with electron microscopy including in situ studies and quantitative imaging and spectroscopy. She is a pioneer in the field of in situ studies electron microscopy studies for site-specific correlation between structure and electro-optical properties down to the atomic length scale. Her contributions also include method developments for dynamic in situ manipulation and stimulation.
Angus Kirkland
Angus is Science Director at the Rosalind Franklin Institute, professor materials and Electron Microscopy at University of Oxford and the electron Physical Sciences Imaging Centre at Diamond Light Source.
His research interests include the development and applications of aberration corrected HRTEM for structural studies of nanomaterials, the design of direct electron detectors and electron optics and computational image processing and theory for phase retrieval and quantitative electron microscopy.
Angus completed his MA and PhD at the University of Cambridge using high resolution electron microscopy to study the structures of colloidal metals. Following a post-doctoral Fellowship, he was elected to the Ramsay Memorial Trust Research Fellowship and subsequently as Senior Research Associate in Cambridge.
In 2005 Angus was appointed as professor of materials at Oxford University and in 2011 as JEOL professor of Electron Microscopy. He is the author of over 500 refereed papers and holds 14 patents. He is also Fellow of Linacre College, Oxford.
Angus is the recipient of numerous prestigious accolades, including the 2005 Microscopy Society of America Award for best paper published, the Harald Rose Distinguished Lecture and Prize for Contributions to Image Processing and Exit Wavefunction Reconstruction (awarded in 2015), the Quadrennial Prize of the European Microscopy Society (2016) the RMS Agar Medal in 2017. In 2012 he was appointed as an Honorary Professor, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Republic of South Africa.
Thomas C. Isabell
Dr. Isabell was appointed as President of JEOL USA in April 2026 and was previously Vice President of Sales and Marketing from April 2025. Prior to that he was promoted to Vice President of Product Management in April 2020. He has been a member of the JEOL management team since 2003, including Director of Product Management, overseeing a team of product managers and scientists responsible for sales support, customer technical support, instrument demonstrations and analytical development for JEOL scientific instrument products.
He also served as Director of the Transmission Electron Microscope product division, managing a team of scientists and working closely with customers to help keep JEOL at the forefront of TEM technology in materials and life sciences research. He has been instrumental in the introduction of the ARM series TEMs and CryoARM TEMs. Prior to joining JEOL, Dr. Isabell held positions in business development at EmiSpec in Tempe, Arizona and applications support at Fischione Instruments in Export, Pennsylvania. Dr. Isabell received a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University.

Eric Hanssen
Eric is Professorial Fellow at the Bio21 Institute and heads the Ian Holmes Imaging Center. He joined the University of Melbourne early in 2010 after postdoctoral studies at the University of Adelaide and Latrobe University where he respectively studied extracellular matrix architecture and the ultrastructure of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. His research interests are mainly in 3D imaging using electrons (block face SEM, tomography, cryoEM)
Kamanio Chattopadhyay
Kamanio Chattopadhyay is an Indian materials engineer and an honorary professor at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. He is the chair of the Mechanical Sciences Division of IISc and a former chair of the Department of Materials Engineering.
