The University of Liverpool
‘For advancement of learning and ennoblement of life’ has been the mission of the University of Liverpool (UoL) since it was founded in 1881. To this day, these values focus our efforts as we strive to achieve our ambitions and tackle the grand challenges of the age. The UoL is a member of the Russell Group - 1 of just 24 leading universities in the UK. Internationally renowned, and with established collaborations of over 1,300 external organisations, UoL is associated with 9 Nobel Prize winners and can proudly boast that 91% of its research is classed as world leading or internationally excellent.
Having been awarded a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023, and shortlisted for the Sunday Times University of the Year, UoL is committed to helping its students become global citizens, through an extensive global opportunities programme. The Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) is research-intensive and world-class, with annual research income of approximately £40M (from a total University research income of £118M).
Through its Schools of Engineering and Physical Sciences, research has generated significant impact on a diverse range of world leading engineering clusters spanning functional materials, biomaterials and biomechanics, additive manufacturing, transport infrastructure, risk and uncertainty, aerospace and fluid mechanics.
The Royal Microscopical Society (RMS) is dedicated to furthering the science of microscopy. It does that through a wide range of activities that support research and education in microscopy, and through enabling microscopists to make advances and developments in microscopy, cytometry and imaging.
The activities of the society include the dissemination of research and news through publications and communication. Most notably, this is achieved via the the Journal of Microscopy - a peer-reviewed, international and interdisciplinary forum for publication, discussion, and education.
The society also organises conferences, training and networking events, undertakes the provision of outreach resources including resources for schools, and supports careers through awards and bursaries.
We are a truly international society, and welcome members from all countries and backgrounds that are interested in microscopes and the science of microscopy.
The RMS is a not for profit organisation and is a registered Charity, under the Charities Act 2011.
